Immune and Cancer
Our immune system is in charge of not only protecting us from pathogenic threats from the outside like the flu and other infectious diseases, but also from internal threats such as cancer. Just as is the case with virtually any other disease, cancer arises when the body gets too much of something it can’t handle and not enough of what it needs to function at peak efficiency. For example, don’t underestimate the impact of teeth on immune function. (Many believe that root canals can contribute to cancer because of the bacteria and toxins that leak out of the miles of tiny tubules left unsterilized in the teeth.) It is likely that all the pages on this website relate to cancer one way or another.
While science continues to discover various genes that make people statistically more likely to develop certain cancers, the really exciting research is into how nutrients can program those genes to behave themselves. There are sophisticated medical treatments for various cancers that are becoming ever more personalized, the basic causes and nutrition support for all types of malignancies are very similar. Therefore, I suggest reading some of the other articles on this website even if your main concern is cancer of another type than the title.:

Study on tamoxifen use and reduced brain function
A recent study (and others) showed that Bitter Melon Extract significantly reduced the number of human breast cancer cells by apparently interfering with their communications and encouraging them to self-destruct. The research is preliminary, but because of its known safety and usefulness for blood sugar management, researchers suggest it might be used for prevention. I found 2 respected companies that sell the herb by itself: Nature’s Herbs and Solaray. Jarrow Formulas uses Bitter Melon in a combination called Glucose Optimizer®.
Gus Kotsanis, MD and Dilon K. Mason (formerly with the Mayo Clinic), whose lymphoma went into remission in his teens after doing unconventional therapies. But, due at least in part to root canals, he relapsed in his thirties. In this interview we discuss his journey through various types of therapies in the US and in Mexico.

There are many natural substances with encouraging records of helping with cancer. Research Poly-MVA, Avé (Avemar), Haelan, Gc-MAF and Essaic. These substances work by different mechanisms. Although it probably wouldn’t hurt to take all of them, I don’t think a person would need to. Most importantly, remember that supplements and remedies are no substitute for taking care of the basics listed on these cancer pages.

Q: Tina from Ft. Worth , TX sent this link regarding Asparagus for cancer .
A: Interesting. That article on the urban legend website, snopes.com gave mixed reviews and you can decide for yourself. But certainly there is growing evidence that eating vegetables is protective against many varieties of cancer.
Q: What kind of selenium recent show guest, Dr. Passwater, mentioned that had cut cancer deaths by 50% in a study? Ann
A: Yes, overall deaths from cancer were cut in half! It also dramatically cut the incidence of various cancers (e.g. prostate reduced by 63%, colon by 58%, etc.) The type was selenium yeast (methylselenocysteine) and other types of supplements do not show the same benefit.. You’d have to eat an awful lot of broccoli to get equal cancer protective effects. (For more on powerful broccoli seed extract, listen to the interview with Dr. Jim LaValle.)
Q: What doctor do you suggest to work with patients who have cancer? (Given a Death Sentence) Thank you so much. Connie
A: My suggestions are listed on this page. I’m quite annoyed with doctors that patients a “Death Sentence”! There is no such thing as “false hope”. Our brains and emotions exert tremendous control over our bodies. Having both a positive outlook and determination absolutely do help achieve health even under the most extreme circumstances. It is easy to find stories of folks who have had “miraculous” recoveries even when the medical profession had only given them just weeks to live. (It is a very sad commentary that in those cases the oncologists typically do not learn from what the patients did to facilitate those “spontaneous remissions”.)
