Avoid a deadly complication of the flu / Astounding resveratrol

Healthy by Nature radio show this week
If you are a man (or a woman who cares about one) you’ll want to listen to my interview with Dr. Kyl Smith about his new book: The Testosterone Switch. We are going to help guys learn 3 vital steps to improve their vitality, motivation, mental performance as well as sexual function. There are also some longterm health factors involved in optimizing testosterone levels, like reducing the risk of death from all causes. Please alert anyone you think might be interested. Avoid a deadly complication of the flu
I feel a bit like Don Quixote going in vain after windmills when I write letters to the editor of the newspaper but they seldom get printed. (Maybe The Dallas Morning News has me labeled as a subversive for some reason.) Here is a letter I submitted last week to no avail:

Most fatalities associated with the flu are not from the flu itself but from “complications” and that usually means pneumonia. Please alert readers that even short term use of common meds for heartburn or acid reflux can increase the risk of pneumonia up to 39% according to a recent review of three meta-analyses.  The most dangerous in this regard are the long-acting proton pump inhibitors (PPI’s) which are the drugs we see advertised on TV.  Besides being required for digestion of protein and the absorption of important minerals and crucial vitamin B12, stomach acid is a first line defense against dangerous bacteria. Commercials leave the impression that the PPI’s should be taken all the time, but, in fact, they are only proven safe for a few weeks. Now, even that seems questionable during the flu season. It is much safer to determine and fix the underlying cause of heartburn and that is usually NOT excess acid.

The Swiss Army Knife of Supplements
Wouldn’t you want to know more about a safe herbal type supplement if it offered help for issues as diverse as the following which are listed in alphabetical order? Alzheimer’s Disease, Blood pressure, Cancers  (such as breast, prostate, liver and colon), Cardiovascular Disease, Depression, Diabetes, Endometriosis, Erectile dysfunction, Fatigue, Flu, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Kidney Disease/Stones, Liver, Macular Degeneration, Brain Function, Pancreatitis, Obesity, Osteoporosis and Wrinkles.

Resveratrol is being investigated for its benefit with all of that and much more. “More” like slowing the aging process similar to the effect of calorie restriction and even reversal of aging according to a Harvard researcher. (That is a potential for another 30 years of health!) Sounds too good to be true but it isn’t if you choose your supplement wisely. Read my long overdue new article on Resveratrol and appreciate the science for yourself.

LINK to that show in the archives. Nutritionist, author, blogger and terrific radio host, Bill Sardi, entertained and informed us about medical trends and more importantly about resveratrol that can avoid many of the ravages of aging. A great show. I should have told you to look at the resveratrol product he formulated, Longevinex.
