I don’t suppose that moving is ever a whole bunch of fun. However, I think ours might have been more of a pain than usual because we were downsizing into a small apartment from a 5-bedroom home where our family of 6 had lived for 44 years! I’ve been told that the term “hoarders” doesn’t quite apply, but I wouldn’t be surprised if “pack rat” does. We are of a “waste not want not” generation, kept things from both of our parents and loved finding treasures at estate sales which we admired and thought might be worth something someday. If it were not for help from our wonderful family I don’t think we would have made it.

We (mostly me) tried to move too much stuff and we are still struggling to organize. (It is a bit of a scavenger hunt for things we know are here somewhere.)  I didn’t want to give up all my cake decorating supplies or the art supplies I’ve been holding onto for the day I’d have space in which to get creative. I have now turned our second bedroom into a “studio” for my art, my remaining radio appearance and health stuff (sauna and whole-body vibrator). The family is laughing at me for what right now looks overflowing, but I am excited by my vision of how it will be arranged when the dust settles.

I plan to get back to doing proper useful newsletters worth at least what you pay for them (remember they are free), but I simply have not had the bandwidth. And I am still recovering from my back fractures, so I do move carefully (i.e. slowly).

The fees for our senior community (Highland Springs) cover a main meal most days. So, I can probably get along without a lot of my former kitchen stuff…especially since I usually bring ½ of dinner home for the next day. (The food is good and in great variety.) I didn’t use the pool at our house often. But, water aerobics is offered here (heated pool) and I might just participate since I think my bathing suit might fit now. We selected a unit where our screened-in balcony has a view of a lake, fountain and sunsets. The residents are lovely. I think we will be very happy here once we get over the exhaustion and trauma of the process.

Yesterday we turned over the items we left behind at the old house to an estate sale company. If you are in the DFW area, check out 212 photos showing some of what will be in the sale (starting tomorrow and Sat 4/13 9:00-4:00 3629 Stagecoach Trail, Plano, 75023). Hey, you might be interested in acquiring some nice stuff which you may later struggle to downsize. Our next step is to sell the house. Then we buy chairs for the balcony and enjoy a Shiner while watching the ducks, geese and sunset.

 UPDATES

  • What if, as a study of veterans suggests, 10% of people who had been assumed to have dementia actually are suffering with a treatable liver condition?
  • Many studies have found that dark chocolate intake was associated with a significant reduction in the risk of high blood pressure as well as a reduction in inflammation. Okay, it wasn’t milk chocolate truffles, but hey, it also wasn’t a toxic drug or fermented Brussels Sprouts.
  •  I have gotten absolutely rave reviews about the information routinely sent out by Peter McCullough, MD from his substack column.
