Antibiotics. As we have often discussed on the radio, antibiotics should be reserved for the most serious of issues. One of those reasons is the growing problem of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. This quote is from an email I received. “I was in quintessential health until 4 months after having my baby, my doctor gave me Macrobid and Cipro [for a supposed urinary tract infection]. Following that, I couldn’t feel my right hand; had joint pain; suffered neuropathy in hands and feet; and had spasms. It was a disaster…all to learn that my culture was negative and there was no need for giving this [drug] to a breastfeeding mother.” As I discuss in my book The Probiotic Cure, CIPRO is scary stuff and carries an FDA black box warning.

Lead shield for thyroid? You may have heard that it is smart to have your dentist protect your thyroid gland with a lead shield when you are getting dental x-rays. I agree. That advice is sometimes extended to mammogram type x-rays. It gets more complicated in that case because the shield might interfere with the test. I recommend solving that problem by getting a whole body thermogram instead. You are completely safe and you receive so much more information.

Honey. Be wary. Some junk products marketed as honey are not. Some may be partly honey but altered with corn syrup (a source of mercury), dextrose, glucose, invert sugar, molasses, and/or sugar syrup. It is best to get your honey from a known local source and you can also take advantage of the local pollen it contains to help build your resistance to seasonal allergies. Make sure it is “raw and unfiltered”. When in doubt, I found this interesting page on how to tell the difference between real and fake honey.

Ridiculous vitamin D study. Sherry Rogers, MD told me the other day about a study claiming that vitamin D did NOT help cancer…but they only administered 400 IU per day! That might be enough to prevent Rickets, but is certainly a far cry from the 5,000-10,000 IU they should have been testing. (Stuff like that makes Sherry call the Journal of the American Medical Association her favorite “comic book”.)

Alzheimer’s. If you know someone with that dreaded disease, you will want to watch this excellent lecture on a comprehensive plan that reverses it.
