Burning bras for health?

Gus Kotsanis, MD will be in the studio with two special guests: Emily Mason, his new Physician’s Assistant, and her husband, Dilon K. Mason, a Molecular Biologist and now a cancer patient at the Kotsanis Institute. Dilon was first diagnosed with lymphoma at age 15 and went into remission after doing unconventional therapies. But, he relapsed about a year ago in his thirties. His journey through various types of therapies both stateside and in Mexico is interesting, but this is also love story of how two people from inside the conventional medical community (they have both worked at Mayo Clinic) handle a life-threatening illness. Brassieres and Breast Cancer
If I was old enough (insert smiley face here), I would remember women’s libbers burning bras in protest of the expectations of society. I thought you might be interested in this article by Sayer Ji (prolific author and founder of the GreenMedInfo.com database) on another reason to shunning the bra. It discusses these facts and more:
•75% of women who slept in their bras developed breast cancer
•1 in 7 who wore their bras 12+ hours per day developed breast cancer
•1 in 168 who did not wear a bra developed breast cancer
•Within one month of ditching their bras, women with cysts, breast pain, or tenderness found their symptoms disappeared.

Please help me help save my friend’s life
jamieI’ve introduced my friend James Mclester before and explained a bit about his 11-year battle with life-threatening kidney disease (more in the section below). With your help, a happy ending is in sight. Before, there was a seemingly insurmountable challenge to find a matching kidney donor and raise the horrendous cost for the procedure and follow-up. But now, he has the opportunity to restore his kidneys using a high tech new method using stem cells. (The explanation of stem cells would be a good topic for a future show, but in brief, they are our own generic cells that can turn into whatever type of cells the body needs.*  But, rest assured this is not the same thing as was the subject of hot political debates.)

The institute that offers the procedure has greatly reduced their fees and even raised some money themselves. James has earned some from sales of his book about his religious conversion in spite of the music culture and friends have held fund raisers. So, the travel expenses are now covered. James can get this life saving treatment in August and be healthy enough to get married if we can raise just an additional $4,000. That sounds doable if everyone did something! But, it is time-sensitive, so, please help now.

There are two ways to help.
Make a tax-deductible donation to this long-established non-profit charity in his name. (Your credit card receipt will satisfy the IRS. Donations over $250 will also receive a letter.) DONATE  (FYI, although not stated on the website, the charity has confirmed that the funds can be used for this new treatment.)

Or, if you are a music fan or would like to surprise one, there is a raffle of a collectible drum head signed by a number drummers for some famous bands. LINK TO THE RAFFLE.

*(Remember Lil Abner’s bowling pin shaped character, the shmoo, that could become whatever you wanted for dinner? Stem cells are sort of like that.)

Some of James’ History
In his early thirties in 2003, James had a near-death experience soon after he was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease. The disease was caused by toxicity from mercury that had leached from the many “silver” dental fillings he had at a young age.  In the hospital, a blood transfusion and eight days of emergency hemodialysis saved his life and stabilized him. However, doctors told him he would need a kidney transplant to survive. James has now been on the list for a kidney transplant at the Texas Transplant Institute in San Antonio for years. Meanwhile, three days a week his mornings  are consumed with dialysis. That keeps him alive but not really employable. He does all he can with an extremely healthful diet and lifestyle and many supplements, but cannot be normal and support a family without this treatment.

Last Week Follow-up
LISTEN to that show in the archives. Renowned nutrition expert Parris Kidd, PhD joined us to talk about two very interesting substances that help the brain, eyes, cardiovascular system, immune system, and much more.: (1) Taurine, a very special amino acid that is required for life, is not a part of protein and helps keep the proper water balance in cells. (2) Pynogenol ®, an extract from French maritime pine bark that has been studied for over 40 years in some 85 studies. There is obvious synergy in the Doctor’s Best combination of these two which is called PycnoBrain™.
