“Negative” usually indicates something bad, right? Well, not if you test “negative” for a disease and certainly not in the case of negative ions in the air. Those are what make us feel so invigorated when we are around a waterfall or the shore. They make us feel so good that Dr. Earl Mindell, the renowned pharmacist and prolific author, discusses negative ions his book, The Happiness Effect—The Positive Benefits of Negative Ions.** More about negative ions below
It is tempting to think that if we can’t see something, it doesn’t matter. However, the roughly 374 accidental deaths per year in the US from invisible carbon monoxide are a good example that isn’t true. (Every home should have a CO detector.**)
We can’t see most energy waves either, but they have risk of benefit for us. For example, ionizing radiation can kill or cause cancer. In this modern age, where every thing and every body seem to be connected, we are constantly being bombarded with various energy waves—e.g. from cell phones, cell phone towers, cordless phones, computers and tablets, Wi-Fi, blue tooth, smart TV’s, satellites, fluorescent lights, smart speakers, HVAC systems, refrigerators and other appliances that “communicate”, baby monitors, and “smart meters” installed by the water, gas or electric utilities. We don’t yet know about the long-term effects of the EMF from the giant batteries in electric cars, but all modern cars are loaded with electronics. The effects of all these sources of electromagnetic frequencies (EMF) are yet to be proven safe and there is strong evidence that they mess with human cells. In December, I will interview an expert on the health effects of the new “5G” cell technology. EMF, pollution, mold, printers and photocopiers, etc. also create positive ions which have a negative effect on brain function and the immune system…pretty much the exact opposite of the benefits of negative ions. People can notice symptoms such as: anxiety, breathing difficulty, fatigue, headaches, irritability, and even nausea.
As Dr. Earl Mindell details in his book, The Happiness Effect.** negative ions have many health benefits. For example, the small ionbox negative ion generator can clear the air of bacteria, viruses, odors, dust, pollen, pet dander and other allergens. The negative ions also balance out the unhealthful effects of positive ions noted above. My radio studio at the network is a double threat. The walls are covered in carpet for sound deadening but may also contain dust and mold. The room is filled with electronic equipment and shares a wall with a huge bank of computers. So, to combat the positive ions and filter out any crap in the air, I bring in my Ionbox every week. It is extremely portable and I have 2 more at home.
The negative ion generator that I use is ionbox**. It is small, very affordable and would make an excellent health-promoting holiday gift. Win a FREE ionbox–your choice of any of their products! Before midnight Dec 4 send an email with your street mailing address to [email protected] (type “contest” in the subject line). Note, if you don’t get the newsletter, we will add you but we never share listener email addresses. (There is an “unsubscribe” link on each issue.) If you buy an ionbox and are the winner, you will be able choose a refund or an additional unit for another part of the house.
Another invisible wavelength, Far InfraRed, such as provided by FIR saunas is wonderful and has multiple health benefits. We will discuss them on the show 11/27/21.

I provide the links mainly for reader convenience, but I want you to know that the show does receive a few pennies if listeners buy going through that link. I’m not kidding about it being a small amount. Really! Every 2-3 months, the show might get a check for about $15. That is not much, but it helps us break even.
