Angelina Jolie-Pitt has chicken pox? Really? Most assumed that to be a children’s disease. Why would an adult get it? Perhaps Angelina’s immune system was weakened from the stress of such a busy life directing and promoting a film; being dissed by Sony executives all while rearing 6 children. Or maybe she is undernourished. If TV supposedly “adds 10 pounds”, what does she actually weigh…70 pounds? I am sorry that she is ill.

Chicken pox is a contagious disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV) that produces fatigue, fever, aches and itchy blisters. While it is certainly no fun at all and it is self-limiting in a week or 10 days. Chicken pox becomes serious only for the very frail and those with compromised immune systems–as is the case with most diseases. (The annual number of US deaths from the flu ranges from 3,000 in a good year to over 10 times that in a bad one.)

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), before vaccination for chicken pox became so common, the annual death rate from the disease was between 100 and 150 persons. While that is only one in 3 million Americans, it is still not good. But, consider this: according to a scientific study of the government’s own Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS), during the period 1990 through 2010, a total of 1,880 children age 1 and under died apparently from the effects of multiple vaccinations given at the same time…READ the rest of this article.
