Inside Out Sunscreen

Healthy by Nature radio show this week

Sports nutritionist registered dietitian and nutrition consultant Christopher Mohr, PhD will talk to us about foods and types of exercise that rev up our metabolism. I will also ask him about fats. Then Naturopathic Physician Heather Manley, ND  discusses how to get children to eat better in part by helping them make a connection between foods and how they feel after they eat them. Her beautifully illustrated books also help them become invested in health by better understanding how their bodies work. She is the author of The Human Body Detectives book series. This is one example: The Lucky Escape: An Imaginative Journey Through the Digestive System.

Last Week Follow-up

LISTEN to that show in the archives.

The topics were obesity, diabetes, gastric bypass surgery and surprising results from that procedure. We discussed those with Lee Michael Kaplan, M.D.,PH.D. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Weight Center at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, which is considered to be one of the leading obesity clinics in the world. Dr. Kaplan is also a leading researcher in gastric bypass surgery and serves as the Director of the Obesity Research Center at Mass General. As you can imagine, he is quite a busy doctor and I’m grateful that he took the time to help us understand more about why 60% of Americans have become fat and sick…and more importantly, what we can do about it.
