What is wrong with this picture?

…well…pretty much everything is wrong.

These are masks that I accumulated over the last 2 years. The problems:

  • Now we know that the only type that is useful is the white N95 (with 2 yellow bands) shown on the left. (If you can smell a toot through your “face covering”, it will not keep viruses in or out.)
  • It is not good to keep using the same mask. (e.g. just because I like the purple one better.)
  • These were not being kept clean where I had them—hanging on door knobs or stuck in purses, pockets or brief case. Most of these 16 were hanging from my gear shift lever.
  • What you can’t see here is whether the masks fit properly. Usually, they do not. Even if the person covers their nose and mouth, you see gaps on the side. Note, if exhaling in the cold steams up your glasses, the fit is not close enough.
  • They make me sad because I think of all the children who’s emotional and education development has been seriously stunted by being required to wear masks all day. Even the Surgeon General this week stated that they are harmful for children.
  • A waste of money. Well to be honest, not usually my Most of them were given to me by a doctor or dentist or were from a large box that Bill bought at Home Depot. The cloth ones were too tight. The one with the red lips looked like a fun idea, but the mouth didn’t line up right and so it looked pretty dumb.
  • Masks can possibly lead to dangerous misunderstandings—e.g. when I make a smart aleck remark, people cannot see that I am grinning.
  • Wearing masks interferes with proper oxygenation.
  • Wearing the masks probably gives people the idea that I buy into all the nonsense we’ve been told.
  • Read a serious review of masks. And, here is a recent study showing that they at least cut in half the distance exhaled particles could travel.

Who decides it is just a theory?

*Maybe that shirt should technically say that it isn’t a conspiracy “theory” if the theory can be proven. There are plenty of real conspiracies and you will see one below. Likewise, news isn’t DIS-information if it is based on facts. What I see as the problem these days is that government authorities, mainstream media, big tech and a variety of self-appointed “experts” have decided (more or less in a vacuum of their own prejudice) what is a “fact”. Then they will not even LOOK at the evidence against their position, let alone engage in an honest debate.

Sometimes attempts to cut off debate become very bold and emotional, especially when the establishment stands to lose money or power. For example, with covid-19, anyone who, no matter how richly qualified, dared to ask any questions about the new vaccines is quickly dismissed as being unforgivably “antivaxx”. Very often the folks asking the questions are not against vaccines in general, just this brand-new breed. However, as you will see below, even if they were nervous about the whole child vaccine program, they might have good reason to be.

I ran across a shocking example of how the truth gets shut down right in front of us. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr wrote a fascinating report about a top secret 2000 Simpsonwood vaccine safety review. Apparently, in response to exploding epidemics of autism and other neurological disorders, the CDC organized a secret conclave of various government agencies, medical experts, world authorities and pharma reps. It was determined that the cumulative amount of mercury contained in the complete children’s vaccine program had not been calculated and was what was causing neurological damage! (Each shot might have been safe, but incredibly, the total hadn’t been considered.) It seems that there was too much concern about professional embarrassment, financial loss and lawsuits to do the humane thing and announce the findings. So, the news of the conference was hidden until leaked by a whistleblower. Mr. Kennedy says that in 2005, he and Jake Tapper, who was then ABC’s senior producer, were coordinating a journalistic / broadcast expose of the Simpsonwood findings. Sadly, the network pulled the plug on the broadcast because the pharmaceutical companies with their giant advertising budgets wanted them to. After that, Jake would no longer even talk to Robert Kennedy. And since then, anyone who even hints that vaccines might cause nerve damage are met with browbeating and attempted humiliation

Well, so much for government agencies’ supposed dedication to public health, traditional standards of journalism, or really any kind of decency and integrity. Hearing that, it should not hard to believe that the government would hide covid information and vaccine problems from us. As further evidence, the US’s world record high death count is due in large part to the government’s blatant squashing of access to even responsible information about early treatment. Whatever their motivation, the feds have tolerated NO distraction from the “get fully vaccinated” mantra.

Our widely respected health investigative journalist, Bill Sardi, brought us groundbreaking news. Mr Sardi analyzed the science and talked to experts around the world to answer two critical questions and more (1) Vitamin D is extremely beneficial, but why does it not always perform as expected in studies? (2) When we are seriously ill (think pneumonia or even cancer) how can we effectively activate macrophages without having them get carried away and cause damage to healthy tissue from excess inflammation? Pearls of Wisdom from Sherry Rogers, MD

This summary is no substitute for listening to the interview, and that not as good as taking the newsletters.

  • Rogers says that she was not able to actually heal herself or patients using only the pharmaceutical medicine that she learned in medical school. She turned instead to God’s natural molecular biochemistry which she helps patients analyze with a comprehensive test and intake form.
  • We agree that the only two causes of disease are that nutrient levels go down and toxin levels go up.
  • Overview of the covid situation. Dr. Rogers thinks the evidence supports the idea that the virus was not naturally evolved but rather lab created to become a continuing problem and in particular to target Americans. It can do that because, due to our diet and medication use, we have more ACE2 receptors in our blood vessels and on our cells for the virus to enter. For example, if on blood pressure meds you likely have 4 times more ACE2 receptors.
  • In fact, to do research on coronaviruses, scientists had to breed special mice to mimic our condition of excess ACE2 receptors. While we have the most expensive medical care in the world, we are way down at #43 in health. She says a prime reason is that we treat everything with drugs that cause other problems. For example, the various blood pressure drugs stress the kidneys, poison beta cell and/or ACE receptors and/or the calcium channels [magnesium is nature’s safe calcium channel blocker]. She is against this plan of trying to poison us back to health rather than fixing what is broken. (For real answers, read her High Blood Pressure Hoax book.)
  • Diet and lifestyle are factors increasing our covid risk. She mentioned in passing the 7 m’s. I listed those on this linked page.
  • One covid risk (for infection and poor outcome) is insulin resistance. Look at a recent blood test and see. If you divide the triglycerides by the HDL number and the result is greater than 1.5, that is a clue you are likely insulin resistant (also a step toward diabetes).
  • Fat cells make covid much hard to treat because they create inflammation.
  • While discussing the ridiculous study on vitamin D, she cracked me up by calling JAMA the “Journal of Atrocious Medical Advice”. That article deceitfully hid the value of vitamin D for covid by giving it in a single colossal dose and only going for a blood level of 40. See next item.
  • Don’t depend on your doctor’s judgement about your vitamin D level. Ask to see your blood test so you can make sure your level is in the range of 90 (over 100 is okay), not the 30 reports may erroneously call “normal”. That nonsense came in history from testing lab stores of blood donated by sick people. It takes 10,000 IU daily to achieve the optimum 90. If you need less, you can take the weekends off.
  • Speaking of vitamin D, Dr. Rogers says we need to make sure our vitamin D receptors work. That requires adequate omega 3 fats (e.g. cod liver oil in glass) and the 8 forms of vitamin E (example) and phosphatidyl choline (non-GMO). These help membranes in cells and cell parts all over the body. Vitamin D also needs magnesium.
  • Rogers is not impressed that the government “expert” spokespersons really know what they are talking about…including the CDC. Following her Total Wellness Newsletters during the pandemic you would have had much more useful information. You can get the electronic version of January-June 2021 for only $20.00. Prestigepublishing.com. On the show she mentioned that covering hair and eyes and changing clothes after possible exposure are helpful. Also flush your nostrils (neti pot or just snort) or use Argentyn silver spray (Sovereign Silver is same mfg but easier to find). (Dr. McCullough’s suggested betadine iodine diluted 2 tsp in 6 ounces water and Dr. Levy’s nebulized hydrogen peroxide have the same effect.)
  • Rogers appreciates resveratrol in the form of Longevinex.
  • There was a great study showing that vitamin C made a dramatic improvement in dangerous sepsis. JAMA buried that amazing study in the back of the journal and cast doubt on it. They moved the goal posts saying that reduced death wasn’t a good standard!
  • Listener asked about alternatives for pelvic prolapse beside Kegel exercises and surgery. Dr. Rogers cautioned against surgery that uses worrisome mesh. The cardio ion 11-page nutrient assay she uses gives info about how to strengthen the tissues. [Vitamin C, collagen and BioSil silicon might be a place to start in the meantime.]
  • The good doctor reminded us that when we take some of these steps to improve covid or other issues, be sure to keep an eye on your other problems because they may get better, and you should ask the doctor to reduce your medications. E.g. if blood pressure got better, the BP drugs might make you dizzy.
  • Keto diet stacks up well, but since it emphasizes fats, she recommends having your levels of 32 fatty acids checked I assume with that test she uses.

 Updates:

    1. Each completed diagnostic test (required in the emergency room or upon admission).
    2. Each COVID-19 diagnosis.
    3. Each COVID admission.
    4. Use of the intravenously administered Gilead drug remdesivir (brand name Veklury), which yields a 20% bonus payment on the entire hospital bill.
    5. Mechanical ventilation.
    6. COVID-19 listed as cause of death.

Bone up on calcium

Ask average people on the street “what is needed for strong bones?” and they will answer simply “calcium”.

That shows the tremendous power of marketing and repetition. The positive calcium message got a big boost in 1956 when the “4 Food Groups” charts appeared in schools. But, going back to 1915, the National Dairy Council has worked hard to remind us that we need milk for general health and strong bones. That trade group has assured that any new government dietary guidelines include generous amounts of dairy. If you aren’t aware of the government’s poor track record, it is tempting to buy into the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) charts and pyramids…that is only until we learn how little of their contents are based on science and how much is due to lobbying from industry. It is a obvious and worrisome conflict of interest that the USDA is charged with both citizen health and promotion of agribusiness’s economic interests.

Given the indoctrination that we’ve all received, it must have come as a shock to many listeners when on the January 15 show, Tom Levy, MD discussed his book Death by Calcium. Let’s review some facts about calcium and bones in general:

  • Of course, we need the mineral calcium. The mineral is required for life itself. The only questions are in what form we get it, when, and how much? The National Institutes of Health’s Office of Dietary Supplements provides this fact sheet. The mineral is especially important for children who are building their bone structure. In seniors it can become a factor in premature aging.
  • Dairy is not the only source of calcium. Canned sardines and salmon with bones (e.g. canned salmon) contain calcium as do certain vegetables, such as kale, broccoli, and Chinese cabbage (i.e. bok choi). The US has the highest intake of calcium in the world and, interestingly, also the highest incidence of osteoporosis.
  • Dairy alternatives. A well-rounded diet of real (unprocessed) food will provide sufficient calcium for most people without supplemental pills or even working too hard to consume dairy products.
  • Deficiency? Folks living in poverty and/or “food deserts” may be low in calcium and therefore subject to deficiency problems because they just don’t have access to a good diet. Note also that dark skinned people may not make enough vitamin D which is needed for calcium absorption.Low stomach acid can also create mineral deficiencies (even if that low acid is caused by prescribed heartburn drugs).
  • Research. Studies do not consistently show that throwing calcium supplements at osteoporosis solves the problem—even with the addition of vitamin D which aids absorption.
  • There is more to the story. Bones require other minerals such as magnesium, manganese, zinc, silica and boron.
  • Bone minerals are held in a collagen matrix. Vitamin C is needed to make that collagen and also performs other roles crucial to bone health. That is why Suzanne Humphries, MD wrote Osteoporosis Is Scurvy of the Bone, Not Calcium Deficiency.”
  • Remodeling. Bones stay strong because they are constantly “remodeling”. That means that old bone is broken down, and new stronger bone takes its place. (Obviously, to build new bone, all the raw materials must available in the body.)
  • Osteoporosis drugs. Most osteoporosis drugs stop the breakdown part of the remodeling process. That does result in greater bone density, but the bones may be more brittle and therefore more prone to breakage than natural bone. There are also disturbing side effects to the medications. Read more.
  • Vitamin K2 guides calcium into bones where it is needed and out of the cardiovascular system where it can cause disease.
  • Hormones also have a big impact on bones. In fact, low levels of estrogen may be the primary reason that postmenopausal women so often lose bone density. Resveratrol is good for bones is in part due to the fact that it acts as a gentle estrogen. A scientific human study is described as “24-month randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, two-period crossover intervention conducted to evaluate the effects of resveratrol on cognition, cerebrovascular function, bone health, cardiometabolic markers, and well-being in postmenopausal women.” Researchers found that “regular supplementation with 75 mg of resveratrol twice daily has the potential to slow bone loss in the lumbar spine and femoral neck, common fracture sites in postmenopausal women without overt osteoporosis.” They also noted that “the bone-protective benefit of resveratrol was greater in participants who supplemented with vitamin D plus calcium [as well as well as resveratrol].” As you probably know, my choice (and Sherry Rogers, MD’s) for resveratrol is Longevinex.
  • Calcium in excess and where it is not needed can have serious side effects. The government fact sheet says, “High levels of calcium in the blood and urine can cause poor muscle tone, poor kidney function, low phosphate levels, constipation, nausea, weight loss, extreme tiredness, frequent need to urinate, abnormal heart rhythms, and a high risk of death from heart disease. However, high levels of calcium in the blood and urine are usually caused by a health condition such as high levels of parathyroid hormone or cancer, not by high calcium intakes.” Tom Levy, MD in his book, Death by Calcium, states that calcium “promotes all known chronic degenerative diseases, and it significantly shortens life.” He explained on the show that in cells unneeded calcium becomes a damaging oxidant (what we take antioxidants to combat).
  • Calcium supplements. Most people would be better off working to eat a healthier diet rather than taking calcium supplements. (Magnesium would usually be a better supplement choice.) For those who have reason to worry that they are not getting enough calcium for their bones and wish to supplement, I recommend Jarrow’s BoneUp. It is a complex of nutrients for bone and contains a special form of calcium that can more easily become bone.
  • Gut ‘bugs’ should be helping. Our friendly bacteria are a key part of the control for virtually all systems in the body, so it should be no surprise that studies show they are involved in bone health. They also protect against leaky gut which is a risk for bone disease.  A scientific study showed that taking Dr. Ohhira’s probiotics increased bone mineral content by 32%.
  • Exercise is important to remind the bones that they need to stay strong. Here is what the Mayo Clinic recommends.
  • Stem cell therapy. Stem cell therapy is not intended to specifically treat any diagnosis such as osteoporosis. Covid-19 January 2022 Summary

Hello readers,

The following information is an overview of where we are in the pandemic in my opinion. I asked our hero, Peter A. McCullough, MD to do a quick scan and make sure my summary doesn’t stray too far from what he has taught us on the program. As busy as he is, he still kindly agreed.

  • SARS-CoV-2, also known as coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19, is not a hoax…it is a real virus. Unfortunately, the way that governments, including the US, have dealt with it (e.g. overstating and harping on deaths) has spread unwarranted panic and been used to justify highhanded controls that are not all supported by the science.  (Closing of schools is a prime example.)
  • The US government does not use good judgement when they treat everyone the same. High risk elders and persons with compounding illnesses should have the most attention. (In Jan 2022, the CDC announced that 75% of persons hospitalized with covid-19 were found to be suffering with an average of 4 co-morbidities.)  Healthy young people apparently should have been allowed to live their lives and maintain their income.
  • Case counts have been spiking for several reasons. Most notably, there has been a surge in testing…if you look for it, you will find it. The public is tired of the whole business and has relaxed some precautions. Also, see the note below about the Omicron variant.
  • Today, randomly testing everyone makes less sense than only testing those who have symptoms or who are around high-risk persons. Massive testing of employees or citizens who do not have symptoms uses up scarce resources, generates a high count of caseloads that bother the medical system and does not really solve a problem.
  • I believe the US government’s most egregious and possibly criminal failure was that it not only ignored, but actively suppressed outpatient treatments which Peter McCullough, MD and his colleagues proved could have saved hundreds of thousands of lives.
  • Covid vaccines do appear to lessen the severity of disease somewhat, but vaccine effectiveness has been routinely exaggerated. Fully-vaccinated and even boosted people do contract and spread covid. A friend of mine who had the booster shot spent well over a week in the hospital. (His oxygen levels dipped alarmingly low. Fortunately, before he was automatically put on a ventilator, he discovered the reason on his own—his nose and sinuses were clogged with mucous. That should serve as a reminder to question everything when you are hospitalized.) A relatively small percentage of the “fully protected” actually die. A report by the state of Massachusetts said, “99.9% of breakthrough cases among fully vaccinated people under the age of 60 did not result in death. Among the breakthrough cases for residents over the age of 60, 97% did not result in death. No deaths have been reported in breakthrough cases among those under age 30.”
  • An omicron-specific vaccine is due in the spring, but meanwhile, the existing vaccines are not extremely effective with the new variant.
  • Vaccines all have side effects. In the case of covid, the government has not followed the traditional protocol of monitoring and publishing the side effects which is especially odd given that this is a totally new kind of “vaccine”. It seems that the authorities don’t even want us to take seriously the CDC’s own statistics it prints in its Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System. As of Jan 2022, it shows over 1,000,000 reports of harm, including 21,382 deaths and 36,758 cases of permanent disability from the covid jabs. This link is to a CHART based on CDC numbers—it is easier to read.
  • Susan Linke, a dietitian friend of the show, told me that she is seeing these vaccine side effects in her practice: seizures, tachycardia [rapid heart rate], bradycardia [slow heart rate], sudden death, autoimmune issues in previously healthy people as young as 13, blood clots, severe debilitating neurological problems that have required family members to move in to help with health care (e.g. previously healthy 34 yo), myocarditis [heart inflammation], pericarditis [inflammation around the heart], and severe chronic fatigue upon exertion in previously athletic fit individual.
  • Asking questions about the vaccines is the essence of the scientific method for doctors and it is necessary to informed consent for patients. Simply asking questions or pointing to documented facts certainly doesn’t mean that someone is an “antivaxx” extremist. Unfortunately, censors in the news and social media too often seem to forget that.
  • For prevention, it is smart to keep your immune function strong with the nutrients listed in our Library. (Dr. McCullough has not specifically recommended all of these.)
  • The Omicron variant is highly contagious but less dangerous than previous variants.
  • Omicron has a great many mutations that appeared more suddenly than would be natural. That leads some experts to be logically curious if it is really a newly released laboratory germ rather than an accident.
  • Omicron virus camps out in the nose and throat whereas the Delta variant affected the lungs. This makes Omicron easier to fight off with iodine nasal washes, gargling with antiseptics and / or nebulizing with hydrogen peroxide…especially whenever you have been around people who might possibly be carriers.
  • If you test positive using a home or rapid test, you will not likely know what variant you have. However, the actions to take may be mostly the same anyway:
    • Stay home away from people for at least 5 days and until you have been without fever for 24 hours.
    • Use the natural remedies listed in our Library, especially the sanitizing flushes listed for nose and throat or flushing with iodine as outlined.
    • Avoid going to the Emergency Room because there is not much they can do and too often they want to admit patients to the hospital. Hospitals can be risky places and once admitted, your treatment options are severely limited.
    • Connect with a doctor experienced in early treatment of covid. Ideas are given in the schedule of medications recommended. Don’t take chances, especially if you are someone at higher risk for a serious outcome because of age, obesity or poor health.
  • Monoclonal antibody treatments are effective but are currently in short supply (for reasons only the government can explain). The drugs for covid recently given emergency authorization by the FDA are not yet widely available. Safe, available, inexpensive medications used by the brave doctors of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons are still discounted by the feds or at the least ignored.
  • In the fall of 2021, when, the CDC recommended universal masking of kids in schools, the agency ignored disappointing findings of their own study.
  • Air travel is very safe because of the excellent air purification systems. Airports require more caution.
  • January 7, 2022, when Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor stated that over 100,000 children were in hospitals with covid, news service fact checkers noted that the actual number was only 3,500 and that the vast majority of those were there primarily because of obesity or other health conditions. i.e. they were there with covid, not because of it.
  • Fewer children die of covid than of the flu or even lightning strikes. Read a revealing interview of Harvey Risch, MD, a professor of epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health and Yale School of Medicine by The Epoch Times.
  • The risks to kids from being out of school (malnutrition, abuse, anxiety, depression, suicide, loss of educational standing, etc.) are much greater than any health risk from being in school.
  • Children with covid can be treated with age-adjusted doses of the medications Dr. McCullough recommends for outpatient treatment of adults.

Let’s start 2022 by fighting covid-19 FEAR with FACTS! I was thrilled that our hero, Peter A. McCullough, MD, MPH was in the studio to set the record straight. In case you are not familiar (and surely impressed) with him from previous appearances on HBN (or what by now must be at least one hundred other media features), for starters, he is a cardiologist, an internist, an epidemiologist, the editor of a prestigious medical journal and one of the world’s most published researchers. He has something like 50 papers just on covid. Dr. McCullough has been the brave outspoken leader of courageous and ethical doctors in the struggle to provide lifesaving early treatment to covid-19 patients. He is one of probably only 3 “authority” docs that we see on TV who have actually treated a single covid patient. The others are media hack docs armed with a list of officially sanitized talking points (some of which are clearly false). (Click here for more of his extraordinary bio.) Nebulize Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) to fight Covid-19

This is a review of the Hydrogen Peroxide / Nebulizer protocol that Dr. Levy discussed on the show Christmas Day. Specifically, these are quotes from Dr. Levy’s article about his medical colleague’s experience with patients who were sick with covid illness of various degrees of severity–including serious advanced cases. [Notes like these are my additions].

  1. “Several milliliters of undiluted 3% hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was placed in the nebulization chamber that was connected to a tabletop air compressor/pump-style nebulization machine.” [It takes Just a couple of teaspoons or up to the fill line marked on the nebulizer container. Using standard drug store H2O2 is fine. Food grade has to be diluted to 3% or ordered in that strength…”food grade” may not be enough better to worry about. If you find the full strength is too irritating, you can dilute with saline solution. I prefer a tabletop unit to a portable type. Unfortunately, since we first talked about and wrote about nebulizing, it has become harder to find inexpensive ones on Amazon and a link I offered no longer works. You might search Walmart.com for one around $50.]
  2. “Nebulization was initiated with a mask covering the nose and mouth to deliver the nebulized H2O2 into the nose, sinuses, throat, and airways.” [Don’t be surprised if it makes you cough or sneeze briefly or makes your eyes water.]
  3. “Each nebulization was continued for a full 30 minutes. Three treatments a day were given for a full five days.” [For random prevention and general health, we just do it 5-15 minutes (while watching TV to make the time go faster).]
  4. “Seems to work as a single therapy for covid.” [However, I don’t think you should give up your vitamins D, C and zinc and other natural remedies. If infected, to be extra safe, also consider the monoclonal antibodies and other medical recommendations.]

[The hydrogen peroxide effectively sterilizes the tissues, killing both bacteria and viruses (likely fungus too) before they can set up shop and get further into the body. Research shows that it is a valuable strategy for covid-19. Dr. Levy reminded us that the body actually makes some hydrogen peroxide. The waste product of the hydrogen peroxide (water and oxygen) also indirectly provides more oxygen to the immune system. Dr. McCullough said we can use a netti pot or other system of getting iodine (e.g. betadine 2 tsp in 6 ounces water) into the nasal passages and also to gargle the solution or Listerine (don’t swallow either one). I think the nebulizer is better for the peroxide because it also reaches into the lungs. Some people recommend colloidal silver, but I’m not impressed with the research, and it has more potential for harm.]

Glutathione–A Key to Detoxifying Alcohol

Years ago, I learned a little trick from a charming elderly Goodwill Industries executive. He had a reputation for being able to hold his liquor like a young man. He confided in me that he made every other “vodka” drink just water. No one knew and he felt a lot better…besides consuming less alcohol, he was also staying hydrated, which is important. “Everyone knows that consuming high levels of alcohol is toxic. The purpose of this article is to explain how alcohol causes toxicity and discuss a key antioxidant that helps protect against damage due to overindulgence of alcohol.

Alcohol Metabolism

Alcohol metabolism is a two-step process that takes place in the liver. In the first step, an enzyme named alcohol dehydrogenase converts alcohol into compound named acetaldehyde, which is called an intermediate metabolite. [You don’t have to necessarily drink alcohol to get in trouble. Sherry Rogers, MD taught me that people who have a yeast overgrowth in their GI track can ferment something benign like orange juice and internally into alcohol. They could even be charged with drunk driving, but at the least suffer from health trouble caused by acetaldehyde (details below) if they don’t detoxify the alcohol as Dr. Pelton explains.]

In the second step, an enzyme named glutathione-S transferase facilitates the joining of acetaldehyde with glutathione. The acetaldehyde-glutathione complex is easily excreted in the urine. When adequate levels of glutathione are available in the liver, alcohol detoxification goes smoothly. However, one evening of heavy drinking will quickly deplete the liver’s stores of glutathione.

The body’s available glutathione levels are always being depleted during alcohol detoxification. Thus, people who regularly consume alcohol at moderate levels, such as one or two drinks a day, are also constantly lowering their level of available glutathione and decreasing glutathione benefits.

Acetaldehyde Toxicity and Alcohol Detoxification

Acetaldehyde is estimated to be from 20 to 30 times more toxic than alcohol. Acetaldehyde destroys enzymes and proteins it comes into contact with, and it also causes DNA damage. Elevated levels of acetaldehyde in the liver destroy liver cells and leads to alcoholic liver disease (ALD). And finally, acetaldehyde is highly neurotoxic. Hence, elevated levels of acetaldehyde damage nerves and accelerate cognitive decline.

The damage from excess drinking is not due to the alcohol, but rather, to the toxic effects from acetaldehyde. When glutathione levels in the body are not adequate to keep up with the amount of acetaldehyde being produced during the first phase of alcohol detoxification, acetaldehyde begins to exert its powerful damaging effects.

What Does Glutathione Do?

The second factor has to do with the wide-ranging [beneficial] effects of glutathione. Glutathione is referred to as the Master Antioxidant and it is also a key regulator of the immune system and of detoxification in all cells throughout the body. When glutathione levels are depleted due to alcohol consumption, the whole body suffers. Free radical damage increases, the immune system is weakened, and toxins begin to build up in the body.
